Black mass

I was tasked with creating a title sequence for the purpose of adapting a book into an on screen production. I chose the book “Black Mass,” a nonfiction sort of expose on the influence that one “Whitey Bulger” of the Boston Mafia had on the city of boston for years.

To create this project I started by creating a 3D typeface with a custom material. From there I animated a fractal noise matte and attached it to a volue builder in Cinema 4D. This created a nice organic growth effect that I could apply to each individual character. I took these characters rendered them through Redshift and then composited the renders onto maps of South Boston within After Effects. From there I added some intesne color grading as well as some atomspheric particles and camera shake trasntions.
